Thorne, however, is determined to prove to her that no obstacle is insurmountable when a duke loves a woman. Yet Gillie knows the aristocracy would never accept a duchess born in sin. But every moment together is edged with desire and has Thorne rethinking his choice of wife. After nursing him back from the brink, Gillie agrees to help him comb London's darker corners for his wayward bride. Being left at the altar is humiliating being rescued from thugs by a woman-albeit a brave and beautiful one-is the pièce de résistance to the Duke of Thornley's extraordinarily bad day. He's a grievously injured, distractingly handsome gentleman who doesn't belong in Whitechapel, much less recuperating in Gillie's bed. So, when suddenly faced with a soul in need at her door-or the alleyway by her tavern-Gillie doesn't hesitate. Gillie Trewlove knows what a stranger's kindness can mean, having been abandoned on a doorstep as a baby and raised by the woman who found her there. But the first case Richter takes on is anything but under the radar. Founded by a former SEAL, the private-sector security firm is a major player in the ongoing war against terrorism, known for carrying out covert missions too volatile for official U.S. So when he finds himself facing a month's leave, he offers his services to Troubleshooters Incorporated. Like most men of action, Navy SEAL Chief Cosmo Richter never learned how to take a vacation. And there's no better proof than Hot Target. No one succeeds more brilliantly at blending these exhilarating elements in breathtaking novels of men and women forced to grapple with the deepest emotions and the highest risks. Here's an example of Zinkoff's interesting ordeal: An interesting thing about Zinkoff is that he's terrible at schoolwork, but he adores school. The book is entirely third person with the narrator speaking. Zinkoff explodes with laughter with just a word like “jabip.” Donald rarely becomes angry because he laughs at anything that's funny, including himself at times. I think this book should have been a Newberry Medal winner because of the moral it teaches: never give up. But Zinkoff sees himself as a winner with glorious hand writing. The main plot of the story is that Donald Zinkoff has horrible handwriting, is clumsy, and is a loser to everyone else. Loser, by Jerry Spinelli, is one of my favorite fiction novels.
Zsadist and his twin brother Phury were born to the warrior Ahgony and his wife Naseen. To go with his menacing looks, Zsadist has a warped psyche, and as flashbacks to his past show, he has a lot to be warped about. Unlike the other brothers who are all bulky with muscle and handsome verging on beautiful, Zsadist is lean, scarred, pierced, and shavenheaded – with that skull-beneath-the-skin look about him. However, even these ubermacho warriors are scared of the one called Zsadist. If you’ve read the first two books, you know that the brothers are all vampire warriors – big, bad, scary guys who take no prisoners when it comes to fighting lessers, the desouled humans who hunt and kill ordinary vampires. This book also lays the ground for upcoming entries in the series and I must say it really piqued my appetite. A handy glossary at the beginning of the book helps. Those who have not read the first two books may feel a bit like the new bride at a family reunion, but eventually you’ll figure out who’s who. This novel is a bit longer than usual, 527 pages, but it seems to go quicker than most I have read lately. Today we start off with the second novel from David Alderman in the Black Earth Series, The Broken Daisy. Hello and welcome to another Self-Published Sunday. In the midst of the darkness, those still alive are forced to fight against Legion's malevolence or lose their humanity beneath it. Surrounded by suspicion and doubt, Nathan struggles to stay one step ahead of the world that's against him, and keep tabs on Cynthia, who may or may not end up selling him out in the end. But Cynthia's mother, Theresa, is the one who betrayed Nathan and Daisy. With a bounty on his head, Nathan finds an unexpected ally in Cynthia Ruin, who agrees to help him save his sister, Daisy, from being executed for treason. Nathan Pierce is on the run for forging the president's mandatory barcode tattoo. Now Legion is enveloping the world in darkness, disintegrating almost everything in its path and leaving nothing to stand in its way of the planet's destruction. It is a message left by Legion, an otherworldly entity that traveled to Earth in the fallen stars. "From dust you came, to ash you go." - These terrifying words are found spray-painted on an office wall in Tucson. The stars have fallen, and the world is tilting into darkness. It comes with a bed of rice and chopped salad, topped with a pork vindaloo roux, and a hard boiled egg on the side for ¥1,000. Just sit down and the chef will whip you up a plate of delicious curry – no tricky decisions required. Pork Vindaloo Taberu Fukudaitoryo only offers one thing on the menu. And this restaurant’s vindaloo is so good, the curry earned the venue a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. It’s made with a mixture of spices including red chillies, cumin, cloves and pepper, plus vinegar, which gives it a distinct sour and spicy taste that differentiates it from any other curry. This curry from Goa in western India is inspired by a Portuguese dish first introduced to the subcontinent in the 1500s. Tucked away on the second floor of a building in the back streets of Shibuya is this restaurant dedicated to serving pork vindaloo. Bib Gourmand / curry starting from ¥1,000 The short story is set in Tsuki-jō shrine.
